Download MP3 (right click to save) Every once in a while, I’ll see a headline in the newspaper I think I would call shocking. Like one in USA Today recently. It said, “IS SIN DEAD?” Well, the basic conclusion…No. But we all define the word our own way. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and one scholar in this article said, “We find a comfort zone of morality—a kind of middle class level—where we think we’re doing well. We cut the grass, we don’t double park, but we ignore the larger issues of sin.” I don’t think we get to define sin; God’s the one who does that. He says in His Book, the Bible, “All of us have wandered away like sheep; each of us has turned to going his own way” (Isaiah 53:6 ). This is about more than behavior issues. It’s like, whose running your life? God was supposed to; I am instead. Think hijacking, for example. God was supposed to run this thing, I’ve taken it over instead of Him running it. I have hijacked my life from the One who was supposed to run it; the One who gave me my life. I’ve hijacked it from the plan that would give me a life that matters, and there’s a death penalty for hijacking. The Bible puts it this way: “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23 )…eternal separation from God. But that statement that says we’ve all gone our own way, also has awesome news. It says, “God has laid on Him the wrong doing of us all” (Isaiah 53:6 ). That’s Jesus. My death penalty was paid by the Son of God. Our part is grabbing Him as our spiritual Rescuer. If you’ve never done that and you’d like to know how to, I’d invite you to our website. It’s alifethatmatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters.
