Download MP3 (right click to save) Boy, everybody thought Heath Ledger was going to be around impressing Hollywood for many years, and then one night he was gone. A much praised star found dead in his room surrounded by pills. The authorities called it an accidental overdose. Now, apparently he’d been having a hard time sleeping, and some said he’d had a hard time coping with the darkness of the character—the Joker that he played in the new Batman movie. He was haunted by the role he played. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and I’m no star, but I know about that and maybe you do too. You know, some have played the role of a joker, concealing the hurt, a broken heart, the saint maybe, of covering up dark secrets that are anything but saintly. Or maybe you’ve played the user of people, or maybe you’ve been the volcano whose left lasting damage from your blowups, or the unfaithful who’s violated your marriage covenant. It’s hard to live a life that matters when you’re haunted by the roles you’ve played; there’s just too much baggage. Jesus made this liberating statement. He said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32). See, the secrets won’t be secret forever. The Bible says, “God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ” (Romans 2:16). Jesus has helped so many of us finally lose our mask and be free from our deceit, our betrayal, and our secret sins. He died to set us free. This isn’t about being religious; it’s about finally being real. We’d love to help you get connected with Him if you just visit our website. It’s alifethatmatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: John 8:32; Romans 2:16 |
