So I’m just a little trick-or-treater guy rolling around our Chicago neighborhood dressed up as Peter Pan; maybe that’s why I never grew up. Well, I don’t think I scared anybody, but some of those guys made me wonder if the candy was worth it. I mean, a lot of scary monsters were out there that night. Now I’ve learned since then that those monsters weren’t real. I’ve also learned that there are some monsters that you really should be afraid of.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft and I’m actually talking about that monster in your closet. Not the ones that you used to imagine were in there; the ugly stuff from your past that you’ve tried to keep in a closet where you wouldn’t have to face it. See we’ve all got those monsters, stuff we think is too scary or too shameful to deal with, but that’s a mistake. The un-confronted monster continues to haunt you, to define you, to poison your relationships. That’s why Jesus gave us this key to opening up a life that matters. He said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Not the truth will scare you to death or sink you, it’ll set you free. When you face your monster, you can finally erase your monster. No matter how dark it is, you got to face it to fight it.

“Two are better than one,” (John 8:32 ) the Bible says, so let a trained counselor or pastor open that door with you and know that you are not going to face it alone, because Jesus will walk with you as you face it and as you fight it and get free from it—He promised. The pain of ignoring it is far greater than any pain of facing it.
