Well it’s not a headline that could be called good news, but I’m not disagreeing with it. The newspaper said, “Sense of helplessness pervades nation’s psyche.” It talked about flood levees bursting and polar bears adrift, gas prices skyrocketing, home values plummeting, nearly unaffordable airfares and college tuition and health care and wars without end. Man! And then it asks this question of course, “Is everything spinning out of control?” Yes and no.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft and a lot of things are out of our control. They always have been. Actually, we only think we’re in control any time. We don’t run this universe. We don’t even decide if we take another breath, but things are never out of God’s control.

Listen to what just one book of the Bible says about Him, “He spreads out the northern skies—He marks out the horizon—the skies are just the outer fringe of His works” (Job 26:7-14 ). “He established the force of the wind and measured out the waters and no plan of His can be thwarted” (Job 28:25-28 ). Now here is an unshakable anchor for a life that matters no matter what life throws at you.

If you belong to Jesus Christ on any given day, and in any given crisis, you can say these five powerful words to your God: “You are still in charge.” And He decides the outcomes for His children, not an out-of-control world. So, is your life in His hands? Have you surrendered control of it to the God who’s always got everything under control?
