Download MP3 (right click to save) I always thought it was a cool way to ramp up to the Olympics—you know, having different people carry the torch in different countries of the world. Now one stretch of the torch run this year was really moving. Rick Doran was a firefighter at Ground Zero on September 11, and he won the contest to carry the torch through the streets of San Francisco—except he was a man on a mission. He committed to running 343 steps. That’s one for each firefighter who died on September 11. Well the crowds were bigger than they thought they were going to be and the protestors kind of shortened the run, but he was determined to finish. A two-time Olympian offered to help him. They did 190 steps each. He said he had to finish because, “The heroes that died that day were my whole purpose behind it.” I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and actually, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been handed a torch to carry. And if you belong to Jesus, well so have you—to live a life that matters forever. The Bible talks about many who have died for this faith of ours. It says, “the world is not worthy of them,”(Hebrews 11:38) and then it says, “We’re surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:2). That’s those people who paid the price. So let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. See we’ve got a faith for which many have paid a very high price. They ran their lap faithfully no matter how much it hurt and how much it cost. Now how can you or I drop the torch of Jesus now that it’s our turn? We can’t be ashamed of Him; we can’t fail to light our personal world because, well that torch is in our hands now. How to carry that torch into your personal world? Well visit our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Hebrews 11:38; 12:2 |
