Well, it started out as a Merry Christmas; ended up in the hospital. I gave my boys a brand new NFL football. It was 60 degrees, so we went out and passed that thing back and forth until I caught it where you’re not supposed to catch it—on the end of my little finger. So forget the eggnog, Ron, and the cozy fire. Let’s go to the emergency room. I’ll tell you, it’s no fun having something broken at Christmas.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and may be that’s a feeling someone listening today knows all too well. Here we are in the season when everybody’s all “joy to the world” and you’re dealing with the pain of a broken relationship, or a broken dream, or a broken heart. But Jesus didn’t come that first Christmas to give us a festive holiday to celebrate. He said, “The Lord has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted” (Isaiah 61:1 ). Part of the reason Jesus came was to fix what’s broken inside us. See, He knows about a broken heart. His family didn’t understand Him. His friends weren’t there for Him when He needed them. Most of all, He carried all the hurt and the sin of all our lives to a cross, where He poured out His life to forgive them.

Because Christmas isn’t ultimately about a cradle; it’s about a cross. He stands ready to come into your heart, at your invitation, and heal what only He can heal, and forgive what only He can forgive. Many of us have discovered that being broken is what opened us up to the greatest love in the universe.

We’d love to help you get started in that awesome love relationship this day. Would you go to our website? I think you’ll find some help there. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters.
