Download MP3 (right click to save) It starts the day you take your little son or daughter to kindergarten for the first time and leave them there. Oh man, they’re out of your sight, they’re out of your care, they’re beyond what you can control, and as every one of us parents knows, that is only the beginning—and the beginning of the butterflies we feel sending our kids out the door into a fairly scary world. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and there’s a promise from God that’s been an anchor for us as parents for a long time and maybe it might help you worry a little less, nag a little less, be a little less controlling or frustrating your kids with smother love. It says, “He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart: He gently leads those that have young” (Isaiah 40:11 ). Now when you’re not with them, Jesus the good Shepherd, always is. When our kids were little, we took them to a service at church where we dedicated each one to God—little babies—held them up and dedicated them to God. We found that now that they’re even all grown up, we need to do that every day of their lives. They’re just on loan to us anyway to prepare them to live a life that matters. Each new day, give back to God that son or daughter that God gave to you. It will make it a lot easier when they head out the door without you, because the God of the universe is holding them close to His heart. There’s a lot of practical spiritual encouragement at our website. I’d invite you to check it out today. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters.
