You know, all accelerator and no brakes. And I don’t think I’m alone. It’s a problem with a lot of us fast-moving, make-it-happen people. We get going so fast that we lose our brakes. It’s hard for anyone to stop our forward momentum–including God. I’ve been studying David lately, and I got a glimpse of one reason God called him “a man after My own heart.” David told his team: “I had it in my heart to build a house for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it. But God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My Name. Solomon your son is the one who will build My house’” (1 Chronicles 28:2 , 3, 6). David was a go-getter, a visionary; he was a get-it-done leader. He’s racing full speed toward his dream, building a temple for God. But when God said, “Hit the brakes,” David did what God said, even if it broke his heart to stop. We’re prone to making momentum mistakes, and our forward momentum can carry us right out of the will of God and even over a cliff. We’ve got to go when God says go, and obey no when He says no.
