Download MP3 (right click to save) When you’re watching a football game, those huddles between plays probably aren’t going to make it into the highlight film, I know. And even though they’re boring to us, the huddle is pretty important to the outcome of the game. Plays are called there, assignments get clarified, last minute changes are made. Now imagine an entire football game where the team had no huddles. I think we’re talking chaos on the gridiron here. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and any team that hopes to win has to have regular huddles, right? Well, so does any marriage that hopes to win. The Bible asks this bottom-line question: “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?” (Amos 3:3 ) See, a family can’t stay on course unless a husband and wife agree on the direction they should be going with their money, with their children, deciding commitments—actually so many decisions. And life just keeps happening—like the ever changing events in a football game. A couple has to be sure that they’re agreed on what plays to run, on who’s going to do what, on what changes need to be made, and that isn’t going to happen unless they have regular huddle time. Comparing schedules, airing frustrations, clarifying misunderstandings, exchanging the breaking news of the day—the nuts and bolts of two people trying to live together a life that matters. Two words that contribute a lot to a happy marriage—no surprises. The stress of our lives will always squeeze out our huddle time unless we make it a non-negotiable. A sanity preserver that’s just not optional. Hey, we’re committed to being a spiritual encouragement in these broadcasts and at our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Amos 3:3 |
