Download MP3 (right click to save) I was the speaker at the conference, but the Lord spoke to me through an elderly woman who barely speaks a word these days. She’s in the later stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Her daughter brought her to the conference with her. There’s not much expression, not much communication, most of the memory of her life has been erased by the darkness in her mind. But there are a few things that darkness has not been able to steal from her. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and during praise and worship, we were led in singing that great old hymn, “It Is Well with My Soul”. The verses talk about “when sorrows like sea billows roll…whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, ‘it is well with my soul.’” I glanced over at that precious lady with Alzheimer’s who had appeared pretty unresponsive most of the weekend. Her lips were moving. She was mouthing those words! ”It is well, it is well with my soul.” It was hard for me to sing after that. Then she mouthed the words to the next song, ”My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine…If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now”. What a testimony to the kind of Savior we have. He’s our sunrise Savior, early in our life. He’s our sunset Savior when the darkness is closing in, and through every hour in between. Here’s what God says: “I have upheld (you) since you were conceived, and have carried you since your birth. Even to old age and gray hairs I am He…who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” (Isaiah 46:3 , 4). No matter how long the journey, no matter how dark the darkness, He will be there. So you can sing, no matter what the circumstances, “It is well with my soul.” If you’re not sure you belong to this Savior, would you visit our website today? It’s ALifeThatMatters.org because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Isaiah 46:3-4 |
